While looking for acoustic guitars, one thing we need to keep in mind is that the quality and price of the guitars are so heavily linked. So, if you are serious about buying a good guitar, forget the under $100 ones available on the discount stores. One of the best everlasting acoustic guitars is the Seagull S6 which is available for a price of around $400-$500. Another good choice for serious guitarists is the Washburn D10S.
A beginner can look for one of these – Yamaha F310, Takamine G-240 or Fender DG7

It depends on if you are an absolute beginner, or you are just looking for a quality guitar. My advice for beginners would be to buy a reasonably cheap guitar, and prefferably a classical acoustic which has nylon strings which will be a lot easier on your soft fingers when you are starting out. The reason I say buy a cheap one is because you don't want to spend to much money if you decide after a short time the guitar is not something you want to continue with.

Choosing the right acoustic guitar depends on your goals. If money is a consideration, I would recommend considering a second hand guitar. One thing you want to pay close attention to, is the action. (How far the strings are off the neck). If the action is good, a steel string is not that hard on the fingers. Taking your time, will do the trick.
