Question

How can I lose weight and keep it off?

Description
I have been struggling with weight issues since adolescence, typically being between 50-75lbs overweight. I've had periods in my life where I was successfully able to diet down to a lower weight, but I always managed to put it back on. At this point in my life (mid 50s) this is seriously becoming a health issue for me. I need to consult with a professional about how to live a healthier lifestyle but I do not know where to start. I live in upstate New York.

Losing weight can be very frustrating. I have never had to deal with being overweight, myself, but being underweight. No matter how hard I tried, I could never put on healthy weight (muscle mass). I would try dieting to bulk up, but I always gave up after a couple of weeks or months. Once, I tried for a solid year and gained 15lbs. Then I got the flu during that winter and managed to lose 20lbs.

I have been told that Healthy Living & Well Being in Albany, NY offers wellness coaching and weight loss products. I have given them a call recently and have set up my first consultation. I suggest you call them too! Here is a link to their website:

P.S. From what I've learned so far, losing or gaining weight requires a lifestyle change and not just on and off dieting. I think you will find that these guys give great advice and coaching!

Your diet is mainly responsible for achieving real weight loss results, so at least you've got that going for you. Throw in exercise for extra effectiveness.

But keep in mind that all diet and exercise regimens will stop working after about 6 weeks.

When you introduce a caloric deficit in your diet, your body will get used to having less calories to burn. Your body will adapt. A diet that previously gave you a calorif deficit needed for weight loss, now gives you the exact amount of calories you need to maintain your current weight.

You can't keep on decreasing the number of calories in your diet. You would end up with 1000 calorie diets if you kept it up long enough.

Instead, after 6 weeks of dieting, you have to increase your caloric intake to a higher level. Make sure these are healthy calories and make sure you keep up the exercise and you will NOT gain weight from these extra calories.

Your body will get used to the increased level of caloric intake. This level will become your new maintenance caloric intake.

And then you can once again introduce a caloric deficit to lose weight once again.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

While there can be many factors regarding weight loss the short rule is lower your intake and increase your output or exercise level.  If dieting alone does not get you to your goals look deeper into your life beause there can be other factors.  To lock in your weight loss adjust your lifestyle to support the diet exercise plan you finally adopt that way it will become permanent not temporary.  If you need more suggestions outside of diet go to Self Help Self Healing

Your diet it definitely a very important factor not only when trying to lose weight but also when determining your overall health. That said, the other big factor in keeping weight off and staying healthy is to incorporate daily activities & exercise. More specifically, the Proform XP Treadmill is a great machine that will allow you to combine the proper amount of exercise with your healthy diet.
