Cost effectiveness depends on how much you are willing to spend..No, it does not come cheap at $10000 on an average. But there are so many benefits to solar panels at home including free power, low maintenance and green power which is likely to offset the high initial cost in the future.
We have been using solar power at our cottage at Gambier Island, near Vancouver, BC, Canada for more than 10 years. Our cost for parts was about $2500 Canadian. I did the installation myself. Save maybe $2500.
